HGYS's origins started with seven passionate friends came together to train in Chinese lion dance, Hung Gar Kuen, and Jujutsu. Driven by a shared dedication to martial arts and cultural tradition, they built a school to pass on their knowledge and from this vision, Hung Gar Yau Shu (HGYS) was born.
Over the decades, HGYS has grown into a vibrant, community-focused school that now also offers dragon dance, Tai Chi, and Taiko performance drumming. With over 50 active members and a legacy rooted in discipline, culture, and performance, we continue to expand each year welcoming new students and celebrating the rich traditions of Chinese martial arts and performing arts in Melbourne.
We offer dynamic and culturally authentic lion dance, dragon dance, drumming, and martial arts performance packages for events of all sizes. Whether it's for festivals, weddings, corporate functions, school events, or community celebrations, our skilled performers bring energy, tradition, and excitement to every occasion.
For peace of mind, HGYS holds full Public Liability Insurance, including coverage for Chinese firecracker use during performances — ensuring a safe and professional experience for your event.
